I am considering fitting a power tuning kit to my 130ps Galaxy TDDI, does anyone have any first hand experience of the effect benefits or otherwise?

From what i can gather these tuning kits are not the best way to improve power as they only feed the ecu false information, a few members on here have had the ecu reprogrammed and this is the best way to increase bhp without putting the ecu at risk . :ph34r:

There has been a thread on the forum recently about this.

 

Someone had an ECU re-map which made the engine run hotter under load. The end result was a warped and cracked cylinder head.

 

I have a 130 and it has plenty of power.

Thanks for the comments.... 130 is plenty powerful enough for everyday but Im towing 1.5 ton of boat as well as 6 bodies (family not stiffs) across the continent in a couple of weeks and a bit more would be useful.

It was towing a large caravan which led to the members demise. I'm sure the manufacturers could get more power out of the engine but they obviously have reasons not to. You could perhaps do some investigating into the 150psi version and see what the differences are and see if you can adopt them.

For towing want you want is torque not power! Have a look at the torque curves attached and you will see that the 150 only makes a gnat's c**k more torque than the 115, it just does it for a greater speed range. The difference between 130 and 150 is even less! What speed are you going to tow at? Look at the rpm you will be using, and see what the max torque available is. Should any 'hot chip' company or 'remapping service' suggest that they can increase the torque way beyond what is set, you can be absolutely certain that the engine life would be seriously compromised for several reasons that have been gone into before.

As has been suggested, look at the posts on 'coolant loss' and 'running hot' before you go ahead.

 

If you do chip it, make sure you have a good breakdown insurance!
